Modern Matriarch: Pegi Eyers

Pegi Eyers is a Canadian author, visual artist, and advocate dedicated to women's leadership and gender equality. Her work emphasizes the recovery of ancestral wisdom and traditions, aiming to empower individuals and communities through a deeper connection to the Earth and its sacredness.

Pegi authored "Ancient Spirit Rising: Reclaiming Your Roots & Restoring Earth Community," an award-winning book that explores the intersection of Indigenous traditions and settler society, social justice, and sustainable living. She self-identifies as a Celtic Animist and is a member of the Helena Clan, tracing her lineage back to "Mitochondrial Eve." Her artistic endeavors include visual art and curation, reflecting her commitment to nature-based spirituality and cultural restoration.

She serves as an advisor for Women of the Water (WoW), an international organization dedicated to restoring women's connection to water and advocating for environmental justice. She is also a member of the Association for the Study of Women and Mythology (ASWM), supporting scholarly and creative endeavors related to the sacred feminine and mythology.

Current Projects and Organizations:

  • School of Mythopoetics: She is a founding scholar for the School of Mythopoetics, a regenerative cultural movement offering educational programs that blend mythology, art, and ecological consciousness.

  • Harvard Divinity School Working Groups: She participates in three working groups at Harvard Divinity School: Indigenous Traditions, Our Emerging Selves: Exploring Self and Nature through Creative Practice, and Interspecies Dialogues Conversation/Animism Reading Group. These groups emerged from the conference "Uses and Abuses of Power in Alternative Spiritualities" and focus on alternative spiritualities, including Indigenous and animist traditions.

  • Publications and Anthologies: Eyers contributes to various publications, including the "Dangerous Women" anthology, where she reflects on women, power, and identity. Her essay, "Dangerous White Woman," addresses intersectional injustice and the role of white women in societal structures.
